With the warming weather (I can be optomistic, right?) thoughts turn to cooling off with frosty mugs of refreshing beer. Des Moines has several things coming up that are worth looking into, even if it stays cold.
Iowa Craft Brew Festival. The first annual Iowa Craft Beer Festival has been organized by the Iowa Brewers Guild. This organization is a non-profit hoping to showcase and improve the quality of beer brewed in Iowa. Some statewide favorites and local brewers include Old Main, Raccoon River, Rock Bottom, Millstream, Madhouse, Olde Main, and Hub City.
The event starts at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 21st on 10th Street between Walnut and Mulberry Streets. It runs until 7:00 p.m., though live music continues until 11:00 p.m. If it rains, head to Raccoon River and the Hotel Fort Des Moines. Get tickets at MidwestTix.
Clips of Faith Beer and Film Tour New Belgium Brewing is coming to Des Moines with some sort of mash up of beer and short films. It will be shown on a screen at Gateway Park at 12th and Locust streets in downtown Des Moines at 8 p.m. June 17. According to the Des Moines Register, the event will also promote New Belgium’s “Lips of Faith” line of small-batch brews. The event also benefits the Des Moines Bicycle Collective.
