Summer Drinks to Survive the Infernal Hell of Midwestern Summer

The current heat index of 105 is making it unbearable to be outside in the steaming hell-cauldron that Omaha has become. However, this opressive, stifling heat does have its benefits: it’s the season for the Dark-and-Stormy and Moscow Mule.

Because the heat makes our bodies shut down, lie on the couch, and watch Top Gear reruns, I figured I would offer a quick Dark-and-Stormy recepie for us lazy day-drunks. Because really, who wants to go to the trouble of mashing up limes? Here’s the quickest way to get sugar, ginger, and spirits into your bloodstream:

You’ll need:

  • Cheap spiced rum (or vodka for the Moscow Mule)
  • Bargain bin limeade
  • Ginger beer

Fill a glass with ice. Pour a shot of rum or vodka over the ice. Fill 2/3rds with ginger beer, and the rest with limeade. Mix it up and go back to the couch.

A successful summer’s day in Nebraska.
